Where I bought all of the things

miniature coaching inn yard

Updated 8/28/2021 with new shops I've noticed:

I have been afraid to start on this post because it means going back through SO MANY posts and Pinterest pins and who knows what else, but I also know it's something I can do because I can recall how difficult it was to find items when I was looking to source everything I needed for this project. So this is as complete a list as I can make it, which means it's probably not complete at all...there are certainly shops missing where I just forgot where I got things or purchased one item from an Etsy or eBay store. I hope it will still be helpful to folks, though!

Shops are generally listed under the category where I got the most items from but if I got a lot from several categories they are cross-listed. I've also included some web sites that have been on my radar or used for other projects even if I didn't use them for this one. They're  noted as such.

These are all 1:48 scale or O Scale unless otherwise noted.

Please leave a comment if you know of another site and I will get it added.

MVPs (these will be repeated below but deserve special mention here!)
Base

Buildings / landscaping
  • Petite Properties: Most buildings, exterior roof tiles, landscaping bits, paint
  • Scale Buildings DIY: Coaching arch kit
  • Model Builder Supply: I'm not sure I actually used any of their pieces for this but I have purchased for other projects so I'm listing them here, for architectural elements and building / stone texture sheets
  • Green stuff world: Textured rollers (note however the brick one used on some chimneys was from Shapeways)
On my radar but didn't purchase from these shops for this project:

Furniture

  • Petite Properties: Many, many furniture items
  • Petworth Miniatures: Many of the wood furniture items, great collection of Victorian / Georgian / Regency / Tudor, also wall sconces, chandeliers, etc. Also structure kits and now book nooks!
  • Karen Cary: A few furniture items. Sadly the shop is now closing but some items that are sold out there can still be bought from Virtual Dollhouse
  • The Quarter Source: Some furniture and also a few accessories
  • Herdwick Landscapes: Beds and other furniture items
  • Shapeways: Some chairs, tables, etc. (decent collection of Georgian / Regency)
  • BJ Miniatures: Some period furniture (they have a nice collection of Georgian / Regency)
  • SDK Miniatures: Some furniture items (they also have some Georgian / Regency and Tudor items)
  • Templewood Miniatures: Some furniture; they have a good collection of Tudor era items
  • Mini Etchers: Plate rack (although I kit bashed it), shelves, washstand, etc....they have a lot of bathroom and kitchen furniture/appliances
  • Miniland: I bought some finished furniture items, particularly upholstered items, from here, as they have some nice Georgian / Regency / Victorian pieces
On my radar but didn't purchase from these shops for this project:

Walls / Carpets / Flooring

  • S.H. Goode: Flooring stripwood and trim
  • Stacey's Miniature Masonry: Miniature flagstones and grout
  • Mini Minutia: Beautiful wallpaper (they also have some architectural items and furniture)
  • Needles N Minis: Carpets (they also carry lighted chandeliers and furniture)
  • Itsy Bitsy Mini: Custom size ceiling (I wasn't as impressed with the printing quality, though)
  • Malcolm's Miniatures: Jacobean style wall panels (also carries chimney pots, flooring, windows, etc.)
  • Melody Jane: Textured ceilings and wall panels (note these were scale 1:24...I got mine from eBay)
  • Desert Minis: Shop now closed, just noting that the wainscoting was from here in case anyone is looking for that specifically
On my radar but didn't purchase from these shops for this project:

Electrical / Fireplaces

On my radar but didn't purchase from these shops for this project:

Fabric

  • Little Trimmings: Lots of fabric options that work great for Quarter Scale as well as little beads and ribbons
  • Petworth Miniatures: Also got some of my fabric from here
  • My Mini World: I got one of my main fabrics from here but most is more suitable for larger scales
  • Etsy: Lots of sellers sell scrap fabric lots (just search for that and whatever material you're seeking) and I bought several to source the project; quarter scale is great for this because you don't really need much of the fabric
Accessories
  • Stewart Dollhouse: Loads of accessories including glassware, bottles, food, gloves, ewers and basins, chandeliers, candles, firkins, barrels/casks, etc. (now also chamber pots but it was too late for me as I'd rolled my own!)...also some furniture
  • Mini From Italy: Fans, parasols, hats (including some she custom made for me), flowers/plants, etc.
  • mini-gems: Little animals
  • A Trifle Small: Some accessories, including food, dolls
  • Shapeways: Bottles, tableware, boots, pistols, blunderbusses, etc.
  • True 2 Scale: I got some electrical items (wires, LEDs) and a few other accessories here but listing under accessories as I believe the shop has sold out of electrical
  • Just Quarters: I believe I got my butcher's shop items from here but sadly they're no longer listed, although they do carry a lot of other items
  • SDK Miniatures: Some of my plants are from them and lately they've been offering more food items
  • Jean Day Miniatures: Mini books, dress kits, parcel boxes, etc.
  • Kenna Gal: Books
  • Cynthia Howe Miniatures: Some accessories including teapots, ladies' shoes and other items
  • Young at Heart Miniatures: Trunks, plates, tea sets, pots and pans, canisters, etc.
  • Skytrex O Gauge Railways: Casks, storage, etc.
  • Narrow Gauge Modeling Co.: Casks, storage, chain, block & tackle, etc.
  • S&D Models: Loads of accessories including pots and pans, casks, cleaning items, shovels, axes, buckets, etc.
  • Berkshire Valley Models: Loads of accessories, horses, anvil, hammer, etc. (also some furniture)
  • Mini Etchers: I believe I got my mortar and pestle from here along with some other accessories but I don't see it on the site anymore
  • Virtual Dollhouse: Loads of accessories including tableware, Linden Swiss and other glassware
  • Bicorne Miniatures: Soldiers' muskets and packs (28mm I believe but fit fine)
  • Seaside Miniatures: I got plaid blankets from them and I believe a few other items but they have loads of accessories with a focus on, you guessed it, the seaside. Also structure kits and now book nooks!
  • Kit Kraft: I got my string instruments from here
  • Scenery Express: I got my horses from eBay but for those who can't find them there, these have same set
  • Desert Minis: Sadly this shop is now shut down so if you're looking for some of the food items in my layout that have no source from the other shops, they may be from here
  • Medieval Miniatures: I am still linking here as I hold out hope she'll reopen her Etsy shop someday...amazing, amazing little food items
  • Ickle Fingz: A few accessories, plates, etc.

Setbacks and progress

I haven't posted in a while because I haven't really completed anything lately. I am still working away on both Butterwick Houses, but I thought I would at least post some pictures of work in progress. One of the tricky things with these houses has been figuring out my plan to build them. The reason for this is that they will eventually be joined in some fashion -- their balconies will connect to form the gallery. The bottom part of them needs to be in a stone finish, and I couldn't put the lower windows in until the stone finish was done around them. But the stone finish couldn't be completed until the upstairs was more complete and I attached the balconies. Add to this a whole lot of wallpaper and details which means I really need to work on the rooms from the bottom up without the upper floor in place for each room, and it became a real conundrum. Ultimately what I decided to do was to do part of the front stone, particularly around the windows. I'll then ha...

Completing the ballroom

I went on a major offensive this weekend trying to get the bedrooms of my Butterwick Houses done, and I did! But it's going to take some time to write up the details for those and I realized that I still haven't posted on completing the ballroom. It's simpler than many of the other rooms as it needs a lot of space in the middle for dancing. On one end are two Petworth Miniatures chairs, and a plant stand I picked up somewhere along the way, which is serving as a little side table to hold another Mini From Italy fan. The vases are actually lamp bases from SJS Originals on Etsy, with some Stewart Dollhouse roses inside and embroidery thread as the greenery. I'm pretty chuffed with how those turned out as I think it's my best tiny painting to date. The fireplace is from Victoria Miniland and boy those are a pain to paint. I think I tried spray paint first and it just wouldn't get into the detailed bits so I had to use regular paint (somewhere around here I h...
